NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC HQ, Washington, DC: May 25, 2004
NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC today announced its endorsement of Cliff Stearns for election to U.S. Congress from the 6th District of Florida.
NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC Chairman, Rear Admiral [Ret.] James J. Carey stated, “Cliff Stearns has NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC’s full support for election to the U.S. House of Representatives. He’s served our country in America’s armed forces, he knows the hardships and dangers first hand, and he’s committed to keeping the promises made to our veterans when they first agreed to risk their lives to face America’s enemies. Cliff is who we want making decisions that impact on our military veterans of wars past and today’s young Americans now serving in our Armed Forces. He’s already “walked in their shoes” and understands what it takes to train and fight and win”.
Cliff Stearns served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1967. He announced his candidacy in Ocala, Florida saying, “American servicemen and women are engaged in the War on Terror in defense of the American people. Our military personnel answered the call to service and they are performing brilliantly, enduring hardship and sacrifice on our behalf. I remain committed to supporting our troops, strengthening our military, and meeting the promises made to our veterans. I appreciate the support of the National Defense PAC and I look forward to working with them to secure a stronger America.”
Admiral Carey responded “The 6th Congressional District is home to thousands of military veterans and an equally significant number of Florida’s men and women, both active duty and Guard & Reserve who serve in the military today. They need Cliff Stearns representing them in the U. S. Congress and NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC intends to do all we can to help make that happen”.
Admiral Carey added, “Not only is Stearns a proven supporter of America’s Veterans, and an advocate for a strong national defense built around Peace Through Strength, his policies also extends into a homeland security structure. He recognizes that effective, accurate USA intelligence service must be Second To None. His duties and assignments in the Congress make it crystal clear that NDP’s judgments of his exceptional abilities are well found. Just look at his/her Committee assignments and Caucus Memberships: Member: House Veterans Affairs Committee - Health Subcommittee Member: Military Veterans Caucus Co-Chairman: House Air Force Caucus
There is a message in these ultra-high visibility assignments and duties----- not only are Congressman Stearns’s exceptional abilities recognized by NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC, but also by his Fellow Members of Congress as well. The citizens of the 6th Congressional District of Florida are indeed fortunate to have a man of such outstanding qualities as their elected representative in the Congress of the United States.”
Commenting on the Stearns’ candidacy, NDP’s Vice Chairman Rob Hartwell said, “Over the last 20 years, I’ve run dozens of election campaigns, served as a Chief of Staff to three Members of Congress, and worked closely with Congress on politics and policy. Cliff has the experience, the know-how, and the ability to hit the ground running and succeed the day the new Congress is convened. The voters of Florida 6th Congressional District are truly fortunate to have a candidate of this exceptionally high caliber.”
NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC endorsed sixty-five military veteran candidates for Congress in 2002 and fifty-seven were elected. Cliff Stearns now joins that elite group of veterans endorsed by NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC and we look forward to his triple service as citizen, military veteran, and Member of Congress.
Full details on NATIONAL DEFENSE PAC’s mission are on their web site at www.nationaldefensepac.org. The Stearns for Congress campaign headquarters can be reached through Mike Whitehead at 352-236-2455 or via their web site at www.cliffstearns.net
