OCALA, OCT, 28, 2008 – The Osteopathic Political Action Committee (OPAC) is endorsing the candidacy of Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth) for his re-election effort. The group represents osteopathic physicians and medical students throughout the nation. “We are committed to electing candidates to Congress like yourself who share our commitment to improving the health care system for patients and physicians,” stated Marcelino Oliva, Chairman of OPAC. “Issues like Medicare physician payment, graduate medical education, scope of practice, and medical liability reform affect both the ability of physicians to care for patients and the looming crisis of patient access to care.” “It is imperative that Congress take steps to enhance the availability and the affordability of health care,” said Stearns. “In addition, we need to ensure that Medicare continues to meet the needs of its beneficiaries and that physicians receive appropriate reimbursements to keep them participating in the program.
