OCALA, FL, APRIL 22, 2010 It is an honor to see this outpouring of grassroots support for my re-election, and qualifying for the ballot by petition means that many constituents approve of my record in Congress and that they want me to continue to represent them, said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). Having lived and worked in Marion County as a community leader and a small business owner for 33 year, I appreciate this recognition of my service to the them.
Qualifying for the ballot by petition requires gaining signatures from 5,110 registered voters in the Sixth Congressional District and Stearns handily exceeded this number. In addition to the strong support from District voters, Stearns also has racked up extensive endorsements from elected leaders and party officials throughout the District (These endorsements are listed below).
Cliff Stearns listens to the people by holding 540 town meetings in the Sixth District. Tackling the Florida foreclosure and housing crisis Stearns set up free Homeowners Workshops featuring housing and lending experts for homeowners with mortgage problems and those interested in buying their first home. He also initiated regular outreach efforts that send staffers into communities throughout the District to help people dealing with federal agencies and in need of other assistance. With the economy in recession, Stearns was awarded an A rating by the National Taxpayers Union and was recognized as a "Taxpayer Hero" by Citizens Against Government Waste. Added Stearns, I understand the concerns of my fellow residents living in the Sixth District and I am grateful for the opportunity to help them and work to cut their taxes. I also appreciate the support of the many elected leaders and Party officials with whom I work.
